Resource 2 Use of Video material in the classroom. FREE DOWNLOAD
All CSWs working in education will have encountered this scenario: The tutor arrives and explains that the group will watch a video. The tutor, through no fault of his/her own has assumed that there will be no problem. The CSW however, knows that there are many potential problems and will bemoan the fact that this scenario has not been discussed before. This resource is aimed at providing the tutor with information about the use of DVDs and Videos, what the potential problems are and how to address them. Because this resource is from the ACSW (a third party) it will deflect the perception that the CSW is somehow challenging the tutor. Important: CSWs are advised to use this resource well before the scenario crops up.

Resource 3 CSWs in exams.
This is an area of concern for many CSWs. There are no published official guidelines for CSWs. Many find themselves in situations that cause them worry and frustration, and leave them feeling out on a limb. Many CSWs are called upon to be invigilator, signer, clarifier, scribe and sounding board. Are they expected to perform those roles? What happens if the CSW hasn't been with the student through the course and doesn't know if a word is subject-specific or not, so doesn't know if signing is allowed? What should the CSW do if the student cheats? What if the CSW is asked to support several students at the same time? All these are real-life scenarios.
ACSW have compiled and collected a range of resources that will help CSWs in examination situations. These resources will help to clarify, provide options for action, provide tools for working and suggest best practice for CSWs in exams.
The documents are subject to change and amendment for the examination series in each academic year. From September 2008, updated resources will be available for ACSW members and accessed through the ACSW eNewsletter, which is for members only.
CSWs who are not members of ACSW can download regulations and relevant forms from the Joint Council for Qualifications website, link below:
